Metalens projection module

Big screen. Tiny device.

MetaOptics' metalens-enabled projection module shrinks the projection path, so a full-colour projector fits inside an ultra-thin phone. Turn any wall into your screen: presentations, sports games and movies, straight from your pocket.

  • Metalens-enabled module with minimal stack height
  • Full RGB colour projection in a single optical stack
  • Big-screen viewing, anywhere

What is MetaPhone?

Most phone cameras stack curved glass into a bump. MetaPhone uses flat metalenses from MetaOptics instead — so everything it sees, senses and projects fits inside a body with nothing sticking out.

MetaOptics metalens technology

One flat lens. Zero bump.

A metalens focuses light with nano-scale pillars patterned onto a single sheet of glass. One flat surface replaces the lens stack. MetaOptics mass-produces them on 12-inch glass wafers using DUV immersion lithography.

That's why MetaPhone Pro's 5MP metalens camera module is just 12 × 12 × 2.9 mm and sits flush inside the body, with no bump. The same single-layer metalens handles colour imaging and touchless fingerprint recognition, and a metalens-enabled module powers the projector in both models.

Cutaway comparison: a conventional camera module with stacked curved lenses creates a 3–4 mm bump on a 6 mm phone body, while a 3 mm MetaOptics metalens module fits fully inside the body.

Reservation FAQ

Still curious? Email metaphone@metaoptics.sg.

When is MetaPhone coming?

MetaPhone is coming in 2027. Reservers will be the first to hear exact launch dates, pricing and specifications.

What is MetaPhone OS?

An AI-native operating system powered by Claude. Instead of opening apps, you ask, and it plans the task and does it, asking for your OK before anything is sent, booked or paid.

What does reserving mean?

A reservation holds your place in line. When orders open, reservers are invited to buy first.

How much is the deposit for each model?

MetaPhone Lite: US$49. MetaPhone Pro: US$99. Every deposit is fully refundable and goes toward your final price.

Is my deposit refundable?

Yes, any time before purchase, and it’s deducted from the final price.

Does the deposit count toward the price?

Yes. The full deposit is deducted from the price of your MetaPhone when you order.

How much will each model cost?

Final pricing will be announced at launch. Retail prices will be no more than US$699 for MetaPhone Lite and US$1,299 for MetaPhone Pro.

What's the difference between the models?

Both are ultra-thin with no camera bump, a built-in projector, touchless 3D fingerprint unlock and MetaPhone OS. MetaPhone Pro adds MetaLens camera modules: a 12MP rear and a 5MP front AI camera.

Why does Lite have no cameras?

Lite is built for focus and privacy, with the projector and MetaPhone OS. Pro adds the ultra-thin MetaLens camera modules.

What is a metalens?

A metalens is a flat lens made of nano-scale pillars patterned onto glass. It bends and focuses light like a stack of curved lenses — in a single, ultra-thin layer. MetaOptics designs and mass-produces metalenses on 12-inch glass wafers.

Why doesn't MetaPhone have a camera bump?

Conventional cameras stack several curved lenses on top of each other, and that stack is what sticks out. MetaPhone Pro uses a single flat metalens in a camera module just 2.9 mm high, so it sits flush with the body. MetaPhone Lite has no cameras at all.

How does a projector fit in such a thin phone?

MetaPhone Lite and MetaPhone Pro use a metalens-enabled projection module from MetaOptics. Flat metalenses shrink the projection path and deliver full RGB colour in a single optical stack, so the projector needs very little height.

When will full details be announced?

Pricing, specifications and ship dates will be shared with reservers first, ahead of launch.
